PROBUS is an association of retired or semi-retired people who join together in Clubs, the basic purpose of which is to provide regular opportunities to keep their minds active, expand their interests and enjoy the fellowship of new friends.
MEMBERSHIP is open to anyone of good character and who has some measure of responsibility or achievement in any field of worthy endeavour.
MEETINGS -- Our meetings are held at The Torrens Valley Christian Centre, 1323 North East Road, Tea Tree Gully, (see map), on the first Monday of each Month, at 9:15am for a 9:30am start. Visitors will be met at the door and introduced. No meeting is held in January
ACTIVITIES fall into two parts ----- 1) A formal meeting each month which consists of a Club business session, a coffee break followed by a guest speaker. 2) Outings to places of interest to members eg theatre, museums, gardens, restaurants, etc.
MEMBERSHIPS -- are currently available for retired or semi-retired Men and Women ---- Couples are welcome.
VISITORS are Welcome.
MEMBERSHIP FEES at present are $10 per year with a once only joining fee of $12. A fee of $3 is charged at each meeting to cover meeting costs.
CLUB HISTORY --- The Tea Tree Gully Probus Club was formed in 1984 with the Clubs first meeting being held on 16 January 1984 at the Modbury Hotel. The Club has been a Combined Club since August 2003 when a Notice of Motion was passed to allow women members.
TRIVIA --- It was not until August 2009 that the Probus Club meeting was first held in Tea Tree Gully proper. All the other years the meetings have been held in Modbury, Hope Valley, and near surrounding areas, but all within the Tea Tree Gully Council area.
